Highlights of the Upcoming 2008-2009 Season

The NHL released the schedule for the 2008-2009 season today.
Some highlights include:
- October 4th and 5th Rangers vs Lightning in Prague.
- October 4th and 5th Penguins vs Senators in Stockholm (the Pens also play Finnish powerhouse Jokerit during their trip).
- November 8th, 9th, 10th Hall of fame weekend in Toronto featuring Montreal vs Toronto. The weekend honors the Class of 2008 inductees Glenn Anderson, Igor Larionov, Ray Scapinello and Ed Chynoweth.
- January 1st the 3rd Winter Classic. This years Detroit takes on Chicago at Wrigley Field.
- January 25th All-Star Game (East vs West) in Montreal.

The season kicks off October 4th in Prague and Stockholm and in North America on October 8th.

I’m really looking forward to the Winter Classic. Last year’s game was Awesome! Hopefully the young upstart ‘Hawks whip on the Red Wings.

I agree. I can’t wait.
I have read some complaints about how Wrigley is going to be a bad set-up for hockey, but I think that it is going to be pretty cool. The Winter Classic is about outdoor hockey,pond hockey without the pond, and an odd set-up like this will make it even more special.
