Jagr to Russia

Tags: , ,

Jaromir Jagr PenguinsTSN is reporting that Jaromir Jagr has agreed to a deal with the a team in Russia. The Russian hockey team Avangard Omsk announced it has signed the former New York Rangers star late Friday. Jagr won two cups with Pittsburgh early in his career, but failed to follow them up with cups in Washington or New York.

The Capitals signed Jagr to a huge deal and eventually traded the winger to the Rangers after just 2.5 seasons. Jagr scored 123 points in his first full season with the Rangers and last season notched a respectable 71 points.

He was approached by a number of teams and reportedly a deal to return to Pittsburgh was close, but the signings of Satan and Fedotenko pretty much closed the door to coming back.

It is interesting to see a player who wears 68 on his back (in memory of the Russian tanks invading the Czech Republic) head to the former Soviet Republic to finish out his career.
